Each of the six policing areas (known as Basic Command Units (BCU)) in Kent Police now has its own independent advisory group (IAG). These will have links to the Strategic IAG.
Main objectives
- To critically appraise policies, practices and procedures which impact on the local communities
- To contribute to both strategic and tactical considerations, particularly with reference to critical incidents within the BCU
- To make observations both within the police service and the role it plays in the wider community
- To instil good relations between the police and the communities they serve, as well as between the varied communities.
Membership
- Membership is open to those who reside, either permanently or temporarily, in their BCU
- Kent Police will decide on the appointment depending on the individual and what they can offer. This process is transparent to public scrutiny
- The local IAG will meet as often as required but should meet at least 4 times a year, dates will be set as far ahead as members find convenient
- Members are expected to allow and encourage all colleagues to fully participate in discussions in an open, free and constructive manner
- It is expected that members will serve for a term of four years with a maximum of two terms.
