Citizen focus

Putting people first and getting it right first time

Citizen focus is a government term which relates to the way public sector bodies serve the public.

Kent Police believes this means putting people first and getting things right first time.

What is citizen focus?

Citizen focused policing is not new. It can be found in the Principles of Policing by Sir Richard Mayne in 1829:

‘The fundamental principle is one of the police service being a public service body whose function it is to serve the public.’

In 2007 Julie Spence, Chief Constable of Cambridgeshire Constabulary and Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) lead for citizen focus, defined citizen focused policing as:

‘Delivering a policing service that secures and maintains high levels of satisfaction and confidence through the consistent delivery of a first class policing service that meets the needs of individuals and of communities and provides a service that people value.’
