Gillingham man jailed for theft and burglary offences

Darryl Davies, 28, sentenced to eight months in prison

A 28-year-old man from Gillingham has been jailed for eight months after he pleaded guilty to burglary and theft offences.

Darryl Davies, of Watling Street, appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 27 January. He pleaded guilty to three offences and asked for a further eight thefts from motor vehicles to be taken into consideration by the court.

Arrest and charges

Davies was arrested and charged on Tuesday 19 January in connection with an attempted theft from a motor vehicle at the Gillingham Gurdwara in Byron Road.

He was also charged with theft from a motor vehicle following an offence in Derby Road, Gillingham on Friday 8 December and burglary with intent to steal following an incident at a garage in Gillingham Road on Saturday 16 January.

Keep your valuables secure

Following sentence Detective Sergeant Adam Marshall said: 'Thefts and burglaries such as this can cause misery for the victims. I would urge all motorists to keep their vehicles secure at all times and not leave any money or valuables on display. We want to prevent opportunistic thieves from causing residents to become the victim of crime.

'The number of vehicle crimes and burglaries is continuing to fall in Medway, but we are not complacent and are working tirelessly to bring those responsible before the courts.'
