Reward offer after charity sweet theft

Thieves steal sweets worth £8,000 due to be sold for the Kent Air Ambulance Trust

The victim of two burglaries in Strood, during which sweets due to be sold for charity were stolen, has offered a reward for information about the thefts.

In two separate incidents, thieves broke into a garage in Seagull Road, stealing around £8,000 worth of sweets that were to be sold to raise money for the Kent Air Ambulance Trust

Reward

The owner of the garage, Aaron Sellens, has now offered £500 for any information that may lead to a successful conviction or the return of the sweets to him.

The first incident happened sometime between 11pm on 5 November and 10.20am on 6 November.  The second incident happened sometime between 7pm on 12 November and 10am on 13 November.  In both incidents, the garage door was forced open and the sweets that were being stored were taken.

'Shameful'

Jill Playle, from the Kent Air Ambulance Trust, said:  'It's shameful that someone thinks it is right to steal sweets intended to raise money for a charity, but for it to happen a second time is unbelievable.

'People fundraise for the air ambulance in good faith and with the best of intentions, and it is sad to see their efforts have been hampered in this way, especially as we are here thanks to people like Aaron and his colleagues to help save lives across the county.'

Can you help?

Detective Sergeant Terry Easterby said: 'We would like to hear from anyone who has any information about either burglary, or has information about the whereabouts of the sweets.'

Anyone with information can contact Kent Police in Medway on 01634 891055 or call Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
