Northfleet pub closed after police visit

Officers respond to residents' concerns about noise and underage drinking

A pub in Northfleet has been closed following a visit by police.

Licensing officers from north Kent visited the Prince Albert pub in Shepherd Street following numerous complaints about noise and underage drinking both in and around the pub.

In the latest incident, a disturbance involving up to 70 people was reported on Saturday 22 January. Police attended and dispersed those there and staff voluntarily closed for the night.

Closure agreed

Licensing officer Dave Jarvis, who made the visit to the pub to speak to the licensee, said: 'During the meeting it was agreed that the pub should remain shut until a new licensee has been appointed and the premises also meets strict regulations such as the installation of CCTV.

'Police in north Kent work closely with partners, such as Gravesham and Dartford councils, to ensure licensing laws are vigorously enforced and our pubs, clubs and off-licenses operate within the law.'

Action on your concerns

He concluded: 'In this instance, concerns had been raised by the community about the pub and we were only too happy to visit and take appropriate action to solve those issues.'
