Subject access - before you make a request

Before you make a subject access request it is important to bear in mind that Kent Police will not make information available if:

  • the release of the information could lead to the identification of another person to whom Kent Police have a duty of confidence (this may be an offender or a victim)
  • the information being processed is used for the prevention/detection of crime or the arrest/prosecution of offenders
  • information is contained in non-automated forms (paper files for example) and the cost to Kent Police is likely to exceed £450

Please remember that:

  • subject access does not give a person access to information about other people
  • subject access is not a suitable way of finding out information in order to take legal action against individuals or organisations

When making a subject access request it is helpful if you can tell us what the information you are requesting is for and any other information you have that may help in tracing it. This will make the search process much quicker.
