Make a formal request for information

If you are seeking information about yourself for the purpose of emigration or employment, please do not use the Freedom of Information form below. Visit Data Protection for more information.

Request information

If you can't find an online version of the information you are looking for you should make a Freedom of Information request to Kent Police. Please apply in writing to:

Freedom of Information Team, Data Protection Unit, Kent Police, Force Headquarters, Sutton Road, Maidstone, Kent ME15 9BZ.

Make sure you include the following details:

    • your name and address
    • the documents you would like information about or the subject you want to access information about (please give as much detail as possible)
    • how you prefer the information to be sent, for example by post or by email

Alternatively, download an application form and either email it back up to us or post it to the address above.

Please remember that depending on the nature of your request, a fee may be charged.

All requests have to be made in writing.

Response time

Your completed form will be processed and information sent in the post (or email) within 20 working days.

If any of the information you request is exempt (for example, if releasing the information would compromise police tactics or an ongoing operation), we will explain the reason to you. See also: Information about police investigations.

Charges

Our publication scheme provides information on this website or by hard copy free of charge.

However, some information outside of the publication scheme may incur a charge.

Legal framework

Section 19(2) of the Act sets out the requirements for a publication scheme as follows:

A publication scheme must:

  1. Specify classes of information that the public authority publishes or intends to publish
  2. Specify the manner in which information of each class is, or is intended, to be, published and
  3. Specify whether the material is, or is intended to be, available to the public free of charge or on payment

Section 19(3) states that "in adopting or reviewing a publication scheme, a public authority shall have regard to the public interest in allowing public access to information held by the authority and in the publication of reasons for decisions made by the public authority".

Section 19(1) provides that it shall be the duty of every public authority to adopt and maintain a publication scheme, to publish information in accordance with its scheme and, from time to time, to review its publication scheme.
