Neighbourhood policing

Providing a visible local service

The principle behind neighbourhood policing is to provide a visible local policing service to meet the needs of our communities.

Neighbourhood policing is carried out by police officers, police community support officers, special constables, council wardens and volunteers. The number of neighbourhood officers increased, from 800 staff and officers to 1,200 by 16 November 2011.

Officers work closely with residents, businesses and community groups to address local problems including crime and anti-social behaviour.
