Assistant Chief Constable, Operational Support

Andy Adams

Andy joined Essex Police in 1985. During his time with that force he held both uniformed and crime roles. He was part of the team who introduced crime and disorder partnerships to the county, held the position of community and race relations Inspector and acted as Senior Investigating Officer for murders and serious crime.

He held command for three force areas between 2002 and 2008, the Criminal Justice Department, Western Division (incorporating Harlow, Epping Forest and Brentwood) and Corporate Development, leading change and performance improvement in each.

In May 2009, he was appointed Assistant Chief Constable, Operational Support, in Kent leading on a range of operational matters including firearms, dogs, public order, roads policing, operational planning and frontier operations. In early 2010 he additionally took over responsibility for the Joint Intelligence Unit, Special Branch and the Force Contact and Control Centre. He also successfully centralised force resource management leading to signficant financial savings.

Andy is the force lead for the 2011 Open Golf and the 2012 Olympics, is the current Chair of the Cross Channel Intelligence Community and sits on the Association of Chief Police Officer Public Order Working Group, holding responsibility for sporting and planned events.
