Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS)

Community Safety Accreditation Scheme logoThe Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS) allows organisations and their employees working in community safety to be given targeted police powers by the Chief Constable. These powers can be used to tackle anti-social behaviour, littering and graffiti - issues which affect many communities and people's quality of life.

The CSAS scheme also allows for greater partnership working between the police and local organisations, as well as raising the priority of community safety.

About the scheme

To qualify for the CSAS scheme, public and private sector companies and organisations must pass a strict application process, as detailed by the Home Office and the Association for Chief Police Officers (ACPO). If successful their employees are then vetted and trained to the prescribed standard. These people remain employed by their organisation, not by Kent Police and are not directly tasked or coordinated by Kent Police.

Using powers

CSAS-accredited staff can only use their powers when on uniformed duty and are recognised by the national badge that they must display on their uniform. They will also have an identification card stating their name and the powers they have been granted by the Chief Constable.
