Use of head cameras at Kent Police

Two officers with head cameras

Kent Police is using the latest technology to improve the way we work and provide even better evidence in court.

Kent Police officers use of head cameras to gather evidence and help with the successful prosecution of those responsible for committing crimes.

How the cameras work

The small cameras are worn on the side of an officer’s head and linked to a hard drive. The camera records sound and colour images and will allow the court to see exactly what a police officer has observed at the scene of the crime.

The cameras will be used when police officers see violence-related offences taking place, for example burglary, anti-social behaviour and domestic violence, but they can also use the cameras at any time.

The benefits

This method of gathering evidence should significantly reduce the time officers spend on paperwork which means they can spend more time out on patrol.

Having recorded evidence should lead to much earlier guilty pleas, therefore ensuring earlier convictions, saving both time and money.
