The Roads Policing Unit at Kent Police is committed to reducing the number of injuries and deaths caused by speeding, the use of mobile phones whilst driving, drink driving and the failure to wear seatbelts.

Speed checks are carried out across Kent and Medway in priority areas highlighted by local residents. Neighbourhood Watch also carry out 'Speedwatch' with the local community and neighbourhood officers in the aim to reduce speeding offences.

The consequences

  • Officers deal with offenders through a combination of education and enforcement.
  • Motorists caught speeding or using their mobile phone could face at least three points on their licence and a fixed penalty notice of £60, with some cases going to court leading to further fines and a ban from driving.
