Accessibility advice

The Kent Police website has been developed using published standards and will display and function correctly in all modern, standards-compliant web browsers. We have endeavoured to make the site accessible to all visitors, including those with disabilities. All pages on this site have been designed to comply with level AA of the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) accessibility guidelines.

Making pages more accessible

The Kent Police website is designed to let you change the text size, text and background colors, and other display settings through standard browser settings. Instructions are given for the most common browsers.

Changing the text size

All pages on the Kent Police website allow you to resize the text using the functionality built in to your browser.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Menu option: View > Text Size > Larger

Mozilla Firefox

Menu option: View > Text Size > Increase

Opera

Menu option: View > Zoom > % value

Safari

Menu option: View > Make Text Bigger

Using a plain layout view

Turning off style information gives a plain layout view, which

• makes text black on a white background (or however your browser is set)
• puts all information in one column (called "linearized")
• leaves content images
• removes background images

Menu option: View > Page Style > No Style

Opera

Menu option: View > Style > User Mode

Keyboard access

It is easy to navigate this site using only a keyboard. The "tab" key can be used to move between links, which can be activated by pressing "return" or "enter". The "backspace" or "back delete" keys will return you to the previous page you visited. Use the arrow keys to scroll up and down.

We have also provided keyboard shortcuts, or access keys, to the most commonly used areas of the site to enable easier navigation without a mouse.

Press "alt" + any access key to highlight the access key link. Press "return" or "enter" to go to the link location.

Mozilla Firefox

Press "alt" + any access key to go directly to that location.

Opera

Press "shift" + "esc" to toggle HTML access keys. The press any one of the access keys to go to that location.

Published documents

Documents are published on the Kent police website in PDF format. Most computers will already be configured to view PDF documents using Adobe Acrobat Reader but some may not. Adobe Acrobat Reader can be downloaded at no cost from the Adobe website.
