Recruitment data privacy policy

Information provided to Kent Police on this website to apply for a vacancy or register an interest in working for Kent Police will be treated in full accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and as detailed in the Kent Police statement of Privacy & Legal Notices.

The information you supply will be used to process your application and if your are appointed, any information you supply may form part of your personnel record.

Security vetting

As part of our recruitment vetting process and to help us verify your application we may search records such as the Electoral Roll, Police National Computer System (PNC), Genesis Intelligence System and credit reference agencies as detailed in force policy L56 Recruitment Vetting Criteria.

These will include searching for any cautions and convictions that yourself, other individuals detailed in your application or those with whom you are associated may have, as well as searching for information regarding outstanding credit commitments.

We are unable to supply feedback to anyone relating to security checks due to the sensitive nature of the checks carried out on you, your family and others living at your address and with whom you may associate. Our Data Protection Unit will be able to feedback information on your own security background for a fee, but will not disclose others’ information to you.

Sensitive information

If you apply to us, the application process may ask you for some 'sensitive' details (see sensitive information in the force privacy statement). We will use this information for monitoring recruitment and the selection process and we will ask for your explicit consent. We may share the information you provide with other parts of Kent Police to keep your employment records up to date.

Record retention

In the event that your application is unsuccessful, your details will be kept for a maximum of six months, after which time they will be confidentially destroyed, unless you agree for the information to be retained.

If you have registered in our candidate pool, your application will be held on record for a minimum of six months. You may remove your details at any time.

Declaration

By agreeing to this privacy statement you are confirming that any statements you have made as part of your application are true and to the best of your knowledge. Should you be successful in your application and it is established at a later date that the information you have supplied is inaccurate or misleading you may be subject to disciplinary action.
