Charlotte Owen was ordered to pay £2,250 at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday 2 November under a Proceeds of Crime Confiscation order.

Owen, aged 30, of Sittingbourne, was employed at a country house hotel and restaurant in Sittingbourne. Between October 2008 and December 2011, she stole cash to the value of £67,699 from her employer, having held a position of trust at the hotel, with responsibilities that allowed access to the safe and involvement in the day to day finances of the business.

Sent to prison for theft

Owen was charged on 25 April 2012 and pleaded guilty at a court hearing on 8 June. She was subsequently sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court to 18 months in prison.

His Honour Judge Joy established that Owen had benefited from crime to the value of £76,199 but only had realisable assets of £2,250. Owen must pay this amount with 28 days, or face a further 30 days in prison.
