A Tunbridge Wells man has been jailed for possessing indecent images of children.
Jonathon George Clarke, 59 years-old, formerly of Coniston Avenue, Tunbridge Wells, was sentenced on 27 November at Maidstone Crown Court to 10 months in prison.
Following a proactive investigation by officers from the Kent Police child exploitation and investigation team into the downloading of indecent images, a warrant was executed at the former tutor’s address on 30 May 2012. When police arrived at the property, Clarke said: 'I know what you’re going to find. I’m going to prison.'
Computer equipment was seized and in excess of 630,000 still images were found, alongside over 2,900 live movies.
Detective Constable Karl Brett from Kent Police said: 'Clarke lived a secret life, where he downloaded vast quantities of child abuse images. At the same time he was tutoring children. Since his arrest, some parents of children that Clarke had tutored have contacted us. I would like to reassure them that we believe the material he collected was sourced from the internet, and there is no suggestion that he took any images himself, or committed any offences towards the children he tutored.'
