Land Rover owners offered advice after spate of thefts in Ashford

Police hope advice will help stop thieves

Default News 1

Owners of Land Rover Defenders are being urged to ensure that their vehicles are kept secure after a spate of thefts in the Ashford area.

More than ten thefts of the older style 4x4s have been reported in recent weeks and police have warned that there are concerns that vehicles are being stolen to commit further crime such as removing cable or metal; being dismantled and the parts sold or are being exported due to their popularity.

Advice

Land Rover owners are urged to:

  • Park in secure area where possible.
  • If parking on a street, ensure vehicle is under a street or security light.
  • Leave vehicles not used regularly out of sight or under cover. Where this is not possible ensure that the vehicle is blocked in and difficult to move.
  • Invest in security devices specifically aimed at the older vehicles.

Strong vehicles

PC Michael Baksh of the Ashford police neighbourhood team said: “These Land Rovers are known as strong vehicles that go on for ever and are very popular. Unfortunately due to this they are becoming the targets of thieves and we are urging owners to do what they can to make them as secure as possible and difficult to steal.”
