1.1. This policy has been reviewed in January 202 – minor amendments to paragraphs 2.1 and 6.1.
This policy provides detail on payment of allowances including mileage, travel, accommodation, subsistence and other miscellaneous employment-related allowances. It incorporates the previous policies on allowances and mileage rates previously owned by Finance and also those owned by HR.
3.1. Kent Police values include using resources wisely and serving with integrity. This policy helps underpin these values by setting out the circumstances under which allowances can be claimed by officers and staff and the rates that should be applied.
4.1. Finance/staffing/training
4.1.1. This policy is applicable to all officers and staff employed by the chief constable and affects the costs borne by the force and the reimbursement of its staff in their duties.
4.2. Risk assessment
4.2.1. This policy has been assessed as low risk.
4.3. Equality Impact Assessment (EIA)
4.3.1. An Equality Impact Assessment has been carried out and providing they are correctly and evenly applied, it shows that the proposals in this procedure would have no potential or actual differential impact on grounds of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, transgender, disability, age, religion or belief or sexual orientation.
5.1 This policy has been written in conjunction with HR. Corporate consultation has taken place in June 2014 with the following departments:
6.1 Expense and allowances claims are reviewed by the Finance Services Team at the Business Centre. Staff within Corporate Finance also review all expenditure so anomalies can be addresses at this level.
The force’s internal auditors also undertake an annual review of expense and allowance claims. The analysis of this audit is fed back to both CFOs and the PCC’s Joint Audit Committee.
6.2 This policy will be monitored every two years with the next review due for January 2028.
7.1 Kent Police have measures in place to protect the security of your data in accordance with our Information Management Policy (Policy W1000 – Information Management).
8.1 Kent Police will hold data in accordance with our Records Review, Retention and Disposal Policy (Policy W1012 - Records Review, Retention and Disposal).
