Kent Police opportunities for Inspector/Detective Inspector

Starting Salary: National Inspector Payscale plus £2,000 South East allowance (or other housing rent allowance).


A number of exciting positions have arisen within the most forward thinking police force in the country. 

Kent Police was the first force to receive an Outstanding rating for Legitimacy in the PEEL assessments and the only force to retain it for a second year. If this sounds tempting, we are now looking for suitably qualified Sergeants/Detective Sergeants who are eligible for promotion and Inspectors/Detective Inspectors on a level transfer to join its leadership teams. 

We are seeking dynamic, innovative and operationally credible leaders who are committed to enhancing service delivery. The successful candidates will be truly committed and passionate about leading people and developing key partnerships to provide an exceptional policing service to the people of Kent. 

Successful candidates will provide substantial evidence of leading the provision of a high-quality service to the public, demonstrating potential at Inspector level. In addition candidates will be required to demonstrate evidence at level 2 of the national Competency and Values Framework (CVF):

We will send you an information pack that fully outlines our selection process which is in four stages:
  1.  Chief Constable’s briefing event: Led by Chief Constable Alan Pughsley it will outline his vision and priorities as well as provide further guidance on the selection  process. It will take place on the 24 October between 08:30-10:00 at Kent Police Headquarters, Maidstone.
  2.  Crime investigation, complaints management and Case File assessment: 1 November 2017 - this exercise tests the effective management and oversight of crime investigation, case files and complaints.
  3. Application form and paper-sift process: from 9th November 2017
  4. Interview board process: December 2017/January 2018

Please note: at Stage 3, applicants who have been unsuccessful for promotion in their own force within the previous 12 months will need to provide Kent Police with the specific feedback and development plan that demonstrates they have addressed the development areas. In addition, applicants must be supported to apply for these roles by their current management team.
