A suspect has been arrested following a serious assault in Chatham and detectives are now appealing for witnesses.
At around 6pm on Thursday 22 June 2023, a man suffered a head injury after he was reported to have been punched during an altercation with another man. The incident happened in the High Street at its junction with Church Street.
It is alleged that while the victim was laying on the ground, a second man stole his wallet. The victim, who is in his 40s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
On Friday 23 June, a man was arrested on suspicion of assault and taken into custody.
Detective Inspector Paul Fewtrell, said: ‘It is understood there were several people in the area at the time of the incident, as well as motorists who may have been driving along this section of the High Street or on surrounding roads.
‘We are appealing to witnesses or anyone with information to contact us. Motorists with dashcam are also asked to check for relevant footage.’
