It is alleged a member of staff was threatened with a hammer and knife before a man left the premises with the shop's till.
The suspect then ran along James Street and into a car park on Dalton Street.
Officers completed enquiries including the review of CCTV footage and forensic examination at the scene.
Detectives are now in a position to release an image of a person they believe can assist their investigation.
