Maidstone residents warned following doorstep fraud

Investigators are warning residents in Maidstone to be alert to fake bank transfers when selling items online.
The warning comes after a man collected a phone from a victim in Shepway on Tuesday 8 June 2021 having agreed to buy it, but failed to complete a bank transfer for the property.
Inspector Steve Kent of the Maidstone Community Safety Unit said: ‘The suspect appears to have used a fake bank app on his phone that gave the impression to the victim that funds had been transferred. ‘When the seller later checked their account it transpired the cash had not been deposited. ‘I would advise anybody selling expensive items to use a reputable online payment platform or ask for payment in cash.’
