Renewed appeal following assault in Ramsgate

Detectives are renewing their appeal for witnesses after a noxious substance was thrown at a man in Ramsgate.

Extensive enquiries have been carried out since the incident in St Laurence Graveyard in Manston Road on Sunday 11 February 2024 at 8.20pm. This includes the review of local CCTV.

Anyone walking through the site between 8pm and 10pm on Sunday is being urged to come forward with information.

Investigators believe there may have been people in the area who have not yet called police and could have important information.

The victim of the assault was taken to hospital for treatment after suffering burns to the back of his head.

Keen to identify man

Officers are particularly keen to speak to a man described as white, in his mid to late 20s, with short dark hair and glasses. He was wearing blue jeans and a black coat with a hood and is believed to have walked out of the churchyard at around 9pm.

The man is not being treated as a suspect, but officers think he could have witnessed something significant and might have information to help with their enquiries.

District Commander for Thanet, Chief Inspector Ian Swallow said:

‘We are also looking for any further dashcam or doorbell footage in the area from Margate Road, on to Newington Road and Manston Road, so please could you check for anything that may help officers with the investigation.

‘Incidents like these are rare but we do not underestimate the impact it has on a community and as a result an increased police presence will be seen in the area as we continue to carry out enquiries.’
