Anti-social use of jet skis targeted in Herne Bay

Anti-social behaviour is being targeted on the county's coast this summer.

On Saturday 30 July 2022, officers from Kent Police’s Search and Marine Unit were on patrol in the Herne Bay area following complaints about the dangers caused by some jet ski users.

Working with staff from Canterbury City Council’s Foreshore Services, the constables spoke to a number of riders who were using the slipway near the harbour to access the sea.

While the majority of those using the facility acted in a responsible manner, two riders in separate incidents received formal warnings about their behaviour. If this conduct is repeated their licence to use the slipway will be revoked.

Inspector Adam Duke said: ‘We are aware that the summer often sees an increase in reports of anti-social behaviour by a minority of jet ski users.
‘Kent Police will continue to work with our partners to identify measures that enhance the safety of those in the water and enforcement action will be taken by the appropriate agency where necessary.’
