A man who brandished a cut-throat razor and threatened passengers on a train has been jailed.
On 3 April 2026, Hogr Saeed was travelling on a Southeastern service bound for Dover Priory, when he became increasingly agitated and began shouting at passengers and rail staff. Witnesses reported that Saeed then produced the weapon and made threats to kill other passengers.
Those on board were moved into another carriage by rail employees while police were contacted.
Officers from Kent Police and British Transport Police were waiting on the platform when the train arrived at Dover Priory station at around 9pm.
Saeed, an Iraqi national, was swiftly arrested on board and a search of his clothing led to the seizure of the razor alongside a pair of scissors. While being detained, the 35-year-old also made threats to harm the officers.
He was subsequently charged with multiple offences, including threats to kill, possession of an offensive weapon, affray and criminal damage.
Saeed was remanded in prison whilst he awaited trial and eventually pled guilty to all the indictments. On Thursday 22 October 2026, at Canterbury Crown Court, Saeed, of no fixed address, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment.
Investigating Officer Detective Constable Nichola Shepherd said:
‘This was a terrifying incident for the passengers and staff who found themselves trapped in a train carriage with Saeed. He caused genuine fear and distress which is likely to have a lasting impact on those involved. ‘I hope today's sentence provides the victims with a sense of closure and reassurance that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated. We will continue our work to bring offenders before the courts and seek the strongest possible outcomes.'
