A Medway suspect is to appear at court after a customer was reportedly assaulted following a shop theft.
The incident happened at a business in Canterbury Street, Gillingham, on 23 October 2024.
A man entered the premises where it is alleged products valued at around £70 were stolen.
A customer who was in the store alerted employees and, when they left the premises, it is reported they were verbally abused and spat on.
An investigation commenced and CCTV footage in the area was checked. A suspect was arrested on Wednesday 15 January 2025.
William Coakley, of John Street, Rochester, was later charged with theft and assault.
The 55-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on the following day.
