Officers investigating an alleged assault at a newsagent’s in Hoo, Rochester have made an arrest.
Kent Police was called to the Main Road premises on Saturday 12 April 2025. A group of children entered the store shortly before 5pm and it was reported that a liquid was thrown from a plastic bottle.
Officers attended and enquiries were completed, including speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV.
A boy from Chatham was invited to attend a voluntary interview with his parent, before an arrest was made in connection with the incident on Tuesday 6 May. Pending a charging decision from the Crown Prosecution Service, the 11 year old was bailed with conditions.
Additional patrols have been taking place in the Hoo area and neighbourhood officers have been liaising with local residents and business owners after concerns were raised to police.
Safety cameras have also been installed in the area as part of the clampdown on antisocial behaviour.
Inspector Paul Diddams of Medway’s Community Safety Unit said: 'While we continue to investigate recent reports of disorderly behaviour in Hoo, we have taken steps to address the issues that have been raised and our neighbourhood officers remain focused on ensuring a swift and effective response to protect the public.'Anyone experiencing antisocial behaviour should report it as soon as possible and via the appropriate channels, so that the measures taken are robust and proportionate.'
