Arrests made following antisocial behaviour in Broadstairs

Two arrests have been made following reports of antisocial behaviour at a community event in Broadstairs.

On the evening of Wednesday 22 July 2026, Kent Police was called following reports a disturbance involving a group of young people near the bandstand in Victoria Gardens. Patrols attended the scene and formally dispersed the group, alongside making an arrest.

Arrests

A 13 year old boy was arrested following reports of an assault. Officers have spoken to his parents as part of ongoing enquiries, and an investigation has been launched. Witnesses should contact Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 46/119564/26.

A separate arrest was made the same evening of a 60 year old man for failing to appear at court.

Across the evening, officers used the S34 dispersal power 15 times to disperse groups and individuals showing unwanted behaviour. In addition, 10 stop searches were completed which resulted in a small quantity of cannabis being seized, alongside two community resolutions being issued.

Thanet Inspector Richard Batten said:

‘For an evening that should have been a celebration for our community, it was disappointing that a small group of people couldn’t behave responsibly. Our officers were there to make sure that locals and visitors could enjoy the event without disturbance. ‘We will continue to tackle antisocial behaviour head on in Thanet, and patrols will maintain a high visibility presence throughout the rest of the summer to deal with pockets of disorder like we saw in Broadstairs last night.’
