The initiative has received some great feedback with one student already moving up a reading level, confirming that the work the volunteers have been undertaking is really making a difference to young people’s lives.
They are looking forward to returning to the classroom to help more children reach their full potential.
Superintendent Jason Wenlock from the Citizen’s in Policing Department at Kent Police said: ‘This is a fantastic programme that Julian and Karen have gotten involved in. Reading is a lifelong skill and through helping young people to learn to read they are helping their confidence grow.
‘I know they have relished in watching the students’ reading improve on a weekly basis and seeing the enjoyment it gave them as they progressed through their books.’
The volunteer police cadets programme provides an opportunity for young people aged 13 to 17 to get involved in activities which support community policing.
