Closure order for Northfleet property linked to antisocial behaviour and misuse of drugs

A Northfleet property linked to persistent antisocial behaviour and disorder has been issued with a closure order. 

Complaints about the Lawrance Square address have included incidents of criminal damage, threatening behaviour and intimidation, drug misuse, and noise.  

On Friday 22 November 2024, Kent Police applied for the closure order at Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court. 

It will last for three months and any unauthorised person entering the property during this time, risks a fine and a prison sentence.

Local officers ensured the local authority-owned property was empty and have now secured it. A sign has been placed on the door with a warning that it is an offence to enter.

Consequences

Police Sergeant Steve Cole said:

‘Residents and visitors to the area have suffered anti-social behaviour and incidents of disorder involving those using this premises for some time. ‘They raised concerns with their local constables and council enforcement officers, who warned the occupants of the consequences if they continued. 'Their behaviour failed to improve and we have now put in place prohibitive measures to address this.'

The closure order used legislation under the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, and Gravesham Borough Council will be taking possession of the premises.

Police Sergeant Cole added:

‘We work closely with the local authority to tackle disorderly behaviour that can affect the quality of life for residents. 'Any other people who choose to pursue an antisocial and often criminal lifestyle can expect similar consequences.'
