Gravesend patrols and partner agencies have been targeting those who use cars to commit crime and endanger the public by using unroadworthy vehicles.
Local officers were joined by teams from Gravesham Borough Council Environmental Enforcement and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, at several locations in the town on Friday 17 January 2025.
The driver of one car was seen to act suspiciously as he was stopped. Following a search, officers seized a quantity of class A drugs, two mobile phones and £440. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Four motorists received traffic offence reports for no insurance, using a mobile phone while driving, and displaying an illegal number plate. Two uninsured vehicles were also seized.
Three cars were found to pose a risk to other road users and received prohibition notices due to illegal window tints and defective lights. A heavy goods vehicle also received an inspection notice.
Chief Inspector Will Lay said:
‘Motorists using vehicles with serious defects should think twice before venturing onto the borough’s roads. These operations will continue at different locations on future dates in an effort to also deter criminals from travelling into the town.
‘Our officers welcome the assistance offered by partners whose enforcement teams bring a range of skills. With their help we aim to bring offenders to justice and ensure law abiding members of the public can safely use the area's road network.’
