Driver jailed after victim left seriously injured in Chatham collision

A man who drove with his victim on the bonnet of his car before leaving him seriously injured in Chatham has been jailed.

Jahmel Corbin, 39, of no fixed address, was involved in a minor collision with another vehicle on New Road on 16 February 2025.

After the incident, the other driver got out of his vehicle to speak with Corbin and exchange insurance details. However, Corbin attempted to drive away and, in doing so, drove directly into the victim.

The force of the collision propelled the man onto the bonnet of Corbin's car. Corbin then continued driving along the road, swerving and braking heavily, causing the victim to fall from the vehicle and suffer serious injuries.

Arrested

Corbin fled the scene but was later identified from an image taken at the time of the offence. He was arrested the following day and subsequently charged with multiple driving offences.

Corbin pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. At Maidstone Crown Court on 29 July 2026, he was sentenced to two years and nine months' imprisonment. He was also disqualified from driving for three years and four months.

Investigating officer Police Constable Ellie Cox said:

'The reckless way Corbin used his vehicle as a weapon and showed no concern for the injuries caused to his victim was shocking. 'The investigation moved quickly and we were able to swiftly identify and arrest Corbin despite his attempts to evade justice. 'We hope this sentence provides closure for the victim and his family, who witnessed this mindless attack.'
