Extra officers with additional powers are on patrol in Canterbury this week to tackle anti-social behaviour.
Kent Police received reports of a group of teenagers approaching other teenagers in the Dane John Gardens and city wall areas on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 March 2024, attempting to steal belongings.
The incidents are under investigation and officers are working to identify those involved.
Extra patrols will be carried out in the area in the coming days, with a 48-hour dispersal order imposed to deter those who may be intent on carrying out offences.
From 3pm on Wednesday 27 March until 3pm on Friday 29 March, officers will have extra powers to disperse groups in the city centre and arrest those who refuse to comply.
Inspector Paul Stoner, of Canterbury’s Community Safety Unit, said: 'There is no place for anti-social behaviour in Canterbury, or anywhere else in Kent, and our officers will be taking robust action against anyone found to be causing problems for others. 'The extra officers brought in to the city this week will be stopping and speaking to any groups seen acting suspiciously with the aim of preventing further offences from occurring.'
Anyone with information about the incidents in Dane John Gardens on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 March is urged to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference 46/48465/24.
