Folkestone man jailed following town centre assault

A violent man from Folkestone has been jailed after carrying out a serious assault in the town centre.

Bradley Cooper, 37, punched and bit his victim during the attack in Sandgate Road on Tuesday 12 September 2023.

Assault

The victim had been walking through the town when he was approached by Cooper just after 9am.

Cooper began swearing at the man, before punching him and holding him down on the ground as the assault continued.

It followed a previous altercation between Cooper and the victim on Sunday 10 September.

Arrested

Police were called to the scene, along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and the victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for multiple injuries.

Officers arrested Cooper, who later admitted assault, racially aggravated assault, the assault of an emergency worker in March 2023 and racially aggravated harassment.

Jailed

Cooper, of Langhorne Gardens, was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday 19 February to a total of two years and eight months imprisonment.

‘Cooper delivered an horrendous attack, in public view, and left his victim needing hospital treatment for his injuries. I’m pleased that this violent offender has been jailed and I hope the prison term imposed for his crimes will serve as a reminder that violence on our streets will not be tolerated.

‘I’d also like to thank the witnesses in the case whose evidence helped to secure Cooper’s conviction and put a dangerous man behind bars.’
