A former doctor has received a lengthy jail sentence following years of investigation by Kent Police.
Former General Practitioner, Dr Gregory Manson of Tower Way in Canterbury, has been convicted of multiple counts of sexual assaults upon patients.
The investigation into Manson commenced following complaints that a local GP had been conducting inappropriate examinations upon several male patients at Cossington House Surgery in Canterbury. Police enquiries began in 2017 following a single complainant, which swiftly evolved into a large and complex investigation involving many former patients and medical professionals who contributed evidence.
Victims reported that when attending their appointments, Manson would conduct unnecessary intimate examinations. Manson did not record these examinations in patients’ medical records and did not provide an explanation for their supposed necessity.
Manson was arrested by Kent Police on 21 February 2018 and was released on bail under strict conditions whilst the investigation continued.
He was charged with 24 offences consisting of sexual assault and indecent assault in early 2024. The four-week trial concluded at Canterbury Crown Court on Thursday 3 July 2025, where Manson was found guilty of 14 counts of sexual assault and four counts of indecent assault. On Friday 4 July, he was sentenced to seven years in jail.
Due to the scale of the investigation, a high degree of multiagency working was required with stakeholders both at local and national level, including the General Medical Council, NHS England and social services.
Detective Sergeant Daniel Hall said:
‘This case highlights the impact that one voice can have in paving the way for more victims to speak up, and I want to commend the bravery of those who did. Their courage and testimonies helped secure this conviction and, most importantly, prevent further harm. ‘The degree of inter-agency work involved in this case was extensive, and I would like to thank every individual who helped to secure evidence which led to a high-quality case being submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service.’
