A Gravesend thief has been convicted just days after stealing from a 90-year-old woman he targeted at a cash machine.
Craig Ellett snatched £80 from the hands of the elderly victim after she had withdrawn money at a location in Rochester Road.
Ellett targeted the victim at around 10.20am on Tuesday 23 January 2024, outside a shop at the junction with Brown Road.
He stood behind her and watched as she used the cash machine, before grabbing the money as she went to put it in her purse. He then ran from the scene.
An investigation was led by the North Kent Victim Based Crime Team, and Ellett, 40, of Farley Road, Gravesend was arrested on Friday 26 January.
He was charged with theft, as well as a burglary in Gravesend (also on 23 January), when he stole a television after breaking into the City Praise Centre church.
On Saturday 27 January, Ellett appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court where he also faced a charge of possessing cannabis.
He pleaded guilty to all three charges and will be sentenced at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on 27 March. He is currently bailed by the court, with conditions.
