Officers are warning motorists not to speed after 2 drivers were filmed racing on a motorway near Rochester.
An unmarked patrol began following the motorists after being overtaken at 10.43pm on 15 September 2025 along the M2 coastbound between junctions 2 and 3.
Initially estimated to be going at 90 to 100mph, the 2 cars accelerated to reach speeds of up to 120mph as they weaved through traffic, undertaking and using the hard shoulder as they raced.
Having recorded an average speed of more than 111mph over the course of a mile, the officers pulled them over.
Liam Gammon, 21, of Victoria Crescent, Ashford, and Billy Little, 19, of Lunsford Lane, Larkfield, were both charged with driving dangerously and taking part in a car race on a public way. Little was further charged with having an incorrectly printed number plate.
In April, the 2 men pleaded guilty to all charges and were sentenced at Thanet Magistrates’ Court on Monday 18 May 2026.
Both were given a 30 week custodial sentence suspended for 12 months, disqualified from driving for 18 months, ordered to complete 200 hours’ unpaid work, and pay £272 in costs. They also received points on their licences.
Inspector David Crompton said:
‘We want to remind people that exceeding the speed limit, particularly to such extreme levels, is one of the four fatal factors that greatly increase the likelihood of a fatal collision. ‘It’s a wonder these two didn’t cause a serious collision, putting not only their lives at risk but also those of other road users. ‘Gammon and Little narrowly escaped a prison sentence but have been disqualified for a lengthy period. Anyone thinking of following in their example should consider how limiting disqualification can be, as well as the repercussions it can have on your work or family life. ‘If they do commit any other offences in the next year, this race may see them put behind bars.’
