Investigation into Folkestone hotel fire leads to arrests

An investigation into a Folkestone hotel fire which saw people evacuated from their homes has led to two people being arrested.

Kent Police was called to the incident at the Grand Burstin Hotel in Marine Parade at around 1.20am on Saturday 19 September 2026.

Buildings evacuated

Officers attended and residents nearby were moved to safety while Kent Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire.

Local road closures remain in place for investigation work and police continue to work closely with partner agencies who are supporting those affected by the evacuation.

Investigation

Enquiries to establish the cause of the fire are ongoing and, on Sunday 20 September, a 38 year old man and 21 year old woman, both from the local area, were arrested in connection with the incident. They have since been released while enquiries continue.
