Retired armed forces personnel will enjoy a free Christmas meal thanks in part to a £1,000 donation from Kent Police.
On Saturday 9 November 2024, Inspector Lee Cheesman and Community Liaison Officer, Karen Sandland, met representatives from the Dartford Veterans’ Breakfast Club to present a cheque from the force’s property fund.
The money will go towards 100 Christmas meals for their members who live in the west and north of the county, and who regularly meet at The Bull public house in Dartford.
The cheque matched a donation of the same amount from a club member intended to subsidise the festive meals. The additional amount will now cover the full cost for 100 attendees.
Insp Lee Cheesman said: ‘These veterans selflessly served their country when it was needed, and I am really pleased to show our gratitude in this small way. ‘They are an important part of our community and I really enjoyed meeting them and hearing their inspiring stories. We took the opportunity to offer advice to any of those present who had any concerns about crime, antisocial behaviour or any other issues.’
