Man jailed for violent robbery in Maidstone

A victim was left suffering concussion after she was thrown to the floor during a violent robbery in Maidstone.

Her attacker, Jordan MacDonald, has now been jailed after he followed the woman through the town centre in order to steal her handbag.

MacDonald targeted the victim as she walking home late on 4 August 2024.

He pounced as she entered an area between Knightrider Street and the Millennium Bridge.

Macdonald threw her to the ground as she desperately tried cling onto the bag.

She lay helpless as he assaulted her again, swinging her around by the bag and causing her to strike her head on the pavement. He then fled with her stolen possessions.

The victim suffered injuries including cuts, grazes and a deep head wound and required hospital treatment.

Fast track enquiries by investigating officers led to Macdonald being identified as the suspect and he was arrested the following morning and charged with robbery.

Convicted

Macdonald pleaded not guilty at Maidstone Crown Court but after the case went to trial was convicted by unanimous verdict.

Upon hearing the verdict, the 28 year old assaulted two prison custody officers present in the court room. He was further charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

He was also charged with causing actual bodily harm in connection with an unrelated incident on 10 May 2024 when he assaulted another women, who he knew, and punched her in the face a number of times causing her to fall to the floor.

Sentenced

On 17 July 2026, MacDonald, of Regency Place, Maidstone sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment.

Leading the investigation was Detective Constable Josh Littley, who said:

‘This was a terrifying assault and robbery on a lone woman who was pursued by McDonald though several streets. ‘Whilst it remains very rare for victims to be so callously targeted in this manner, the cowardly actions of criminals like MacDonald can take away their ability to feel safe and independent. ‘No one should ever feel unsafe walking in public places and I hope the prompt arrest and successful prosecution of MacDonald shows how we remain absolutely committed to tackling violence against women and girls in all its forms.’
