Officers from the Medway Community Safety Unit have been meeting motorcyclists at the Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre, to give advice on how to avoid becoming a victim of vehicle theft.
The constables, along with colleagues from Medway Council and members of the Motorcycle Action Group (MAG), provided crime prevention information to a large number of bike owners on Saturday 24 August 2024.
They also gave out items including alarms, locks, chains and security marking equipment funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew Scott.
PC Robert Goble said: ‘The key message for any owner is to ensure that, wherever possible, your bike has layers of security which will deter potential thieves or make the process of stealing it significantly more protracted and potentially a lot louder. For the most part, criminals are looking to complete the offence unnoticed before fleeing the scene within seconds.
‘Many owners were pleased to meet us and talk through the measures they can take to prevent theft. I would like to thank the shopping centre staff and our partners for making the day such a success. We are already planning further events for later this year.’
