Motorists warned after parked cars targeted in Folkestone

Officers are reminding motorists not to leave valuables inside their vehicles and to make sure that vehicles are secured, following reports that cars in the Folkestone area were broken into.

In the early hours of Friday 1 March 2024, it is alleged that a car was targeted on Southbourne Road, Folkestone with a navigation device and loose change taken.

A car in Cornwallis Avenue was also reported to have been broken into with documents and personal items missing, between Saturday 2 March and Sunday 3 March.

Opportunists

Community Safety Unit Inspector for Folkestone and Hythe, James Wyles, said: ‘Theft from motor vehicles is often an opportunistic crime and, while my officers are looking into recent reports, I would like to remind motorists of how best to protect their personal property.

‘Make sure to remove all valuables from vehicles overnight and ensure all doors are locked and all windows are fully closed.

‘Never leave anything of value on display and, wherever possible, park in a garage or a well-lit secure car park. Also, remember to remove any suction marks left by electronic devices from windscreens or dashboards.’

Anyone with information relating to the alleged vehicle break-ins is urged to come forward.
