Officers join community partners at Rochester VAWG event

Officers are celebrating excellent engagement from the public at an awareness event around violence against women and girls (VAWG) in Rochester.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team took to the High Street on Saturday 19 September 2026 to offer advice and get residents’ views on VAWG.

Joined by community partners including councillors, street pastors and the Lord Lieutenant, more than 50 surveys were completed which asked women about their views on their safety and what could be improved in the local area.

Dozens of anti-spiking kits were also distributed, as well as torches and personal attack alarms.

During the event, a person rode past on an e-scooter with officers seizing the opportunity to confiscate it from the rider.

Medway beat officer Police Constable Heather Greenwood said:

‘This event proved a valuable opportunity to engage with the community while providing tools and advice that can help deter VAWG offences. ‘It was also excellent to be joined by our community partners, and it is positive to see the strength of their support in tackling this type of offending. ‘To be able to seize an e-scooter as well was just the icing on the cake.’
