A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving as part of a road safety operation by Kent Police in Thanet.
On Wednesday 18 December 2024, patrols were carried out in the Cliftonville and Millmead areas of Margate, as well as the Pysons Road area of Broadstairs and Ramsgate, where officers checked the speed of travelling vehicles.
Thirteen people were reported for traffic offences, and 50 drivers in the district were also stopped and spoken to about the importance of driving responsibly and maintaining their vehicles.
A number of cars and motorbikes were stopped and issues including defective tyres, incorrect number plates, driving without insurance, not wearing a seatbelt and illegal window tints were identified, resulting in 10 people being reported for offences. A further three people were reported for speeding.
A 36 year old man from Margate was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after officers stopped a vehicle in Princess Margaret Avenue in Cliftonville.
He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Local Inspector Jim Woodward said:
‘Further traffic operations are being planned during the festive period and people are reminded not to get behind the wheel if they have been drinking alcohol. They may also find they are still over the legal limit the morning after a night out, so make plans to use public transport or get a lift from a friend. ‘Always ensure your vehicle is in a roadworthy state, regularly check lights, tyres and brakes and do not drive if you do not have the correct documents. ‘During this season of goodwill, this is a reminder that everyone has a responsibility to keep the road safe for all.’
