Police Community Support Officers have started a regular drop-in centre to offer crime prevention advice to NHS staff at Maidstonehospital.
PCSO Jasmine Pay regularly patrols the Barming area as part of her normal duties and is now offering additional support to doctors, nurses and others working at the Hermitage Lane site.
She visited the hospital on Monday 1 November 2021 accompanied by her colleague, PCSO Anna Hick, to encourage employees to report incidents where they are subjected to verbal abuse or violence from members of the public, whilst caring for patients and visitors.
Inspector Steve Kent of Maidstone’s Community Safety Unit said: ‘It is entirely unacceptable for those working at our health care sites to suffer abuse and assault when dealing with patients seeking treatment. Our PCSOs were pleased to be invited to the local hospital where they explained to staff when and how to report crimes or incidents at work. ‘They also took the opportunity to offer crime prevention advice about personal safety, how to avoid becoming a victim of telephone fraud and what steps can be taken to secure homes and other property whilst at work.’
