Police Dog Elsa tracks down suspected metal thief in Faversham

A police dog and her handler tracked down a suspected metal thief caught hiding around a mile away from where he abandoned his car.

The vehicle the man had been driving had been linked to the high value theft of lead and air conditioning equipment from two separate businesses in Longfield and Maidstone on Monday 17 July 2023.

Kent Police officers spotted the car near the Medway service station on the M2 at around 1.30pm on Wednesday 19 July and followed it towards Faversham, where the driver stopped before running across the motorway.

Arrested

A thorough search of the local area was carried out, with PD Elsa and her handler locating the suspect hiding in undergrowth in Provender Lane around two hours later.

The 21-year-old man from Longfield was arrested on suspicion of theft and failing to stop for police, and remains in custody.
