Chatham town centre will be off limits for a repeat nuisance offender, who has been banned from entering for two years.
A Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) has been enforced on Christopher Lehane after officers linked him to 13 reports since November 2025.
These alleged the Albany Terrace resident had committed criminal damage, shoplifting, theft and public order offences.
With residents and business owners frequently asking patrols to attend, work began to secure a CBO which, if breached, will likely result in a custodial sentence.
On Thursday 7 May, the Order was granted by Medway Magistrates’ Court.
This bars the 49 year old from entering Chatham town centre, namely the area bordered by The Brook, Best Street and Waterfront Way, for two years.
Over the same period, he is also banned from consuming alcohol or having an open bottle or can of alcohol in public other than in a licenced premises.
Medway’s Chief Inspector Gary Woodward said: ‘Lehane’s actions are a frequent nuisance to those who live and work in Chatham, and we are pleased the court has approved this order which will hopefully make the community safe from this man.
‘Breaching a CBO can come with serious consequences, so if Lehane returns to the town or slips up once, he could be off our streets and behind bars imminently.
‘We listened to the concerns of residents and I’m satisfied our officers worked diligently to secure this order and address this blight on Chatham society.’
