A suspect has appeared in court following reports of multiple thefts and assaults at Medway supermarkets.
Between Saturday 11 February and Tuesday 21 February 2023, a man is reported to have targeted three shops in Gillingham and Chatham on four occasions, in an attempt to steal property including meat, groceries and cosmetics.
It is alleged that during three of the incidents, members of staff who sought to prevent the thefts were assaulted.
On Wednesday 1 March, Daniel Thompson, of Devonshire Road, Gillingham was arrested and taken into custody. He was later charged with four thefts and four assaults.
The 51-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 2 March where he was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 30 March.
