Stalker spat in face of former partner during campaign of abuse

A stalker from East Farleigh who spat in the face of a former partner during a campaign of relentless abuse and threats has been jailed.

Alwyn Tuttiett tormented his victim with a constant barrage of phone calls, emails and social media posts and repeatedly followed her as she walked with her child. 

Tuttiett stalked the woman over several months, after their relationship ended in October 2023.

Intimidation and harassment

He bombarded her with aggressive, degrading and sexually explicit voicemails and messages, leaving her in constant fear for her safety. This included calling the victim’s phone 134 times in just one week.  

After she blocked all forms of communication through phones and emails, Tuttiett then made accusations about the victim through her friends’ Facebook pages, leaving damaging comments which were also linked to her own business.

On 6 February 2024, Tuttiett attended the victim’s home and in the presence of her child screamed and spat in her face.

He was arrested later that month and despite strict bail conditions would later continue a campaign of harassment and intimidation.

Tuttiett, of Station Hill, East Farleigh was arrested again in June and after being charged was remanded in custody by magistrates.

The 47-year-old pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to stalking involving serious alarm or distress. A further charge of assault by beating was ordered to lie on file.

On 31 October, Tuttiett was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment. He was also made the subject of a five-year restraining order.

Tremendous courage

Leading the investigation was Detective Constable Josh Barkaway, who said:

‘Tuttiett subjected his victim to repeated and appalling psychological abuse. He made countless phone calls and sent unwanted texts and social media messages to her, leaving her in constant fear and forcing her to change her daily routines. 'The harassment was relentless and has caused his victim a huge amount of distress and anxiety. We are grateful that she has shown tremendous courage in coming forward and helping us secure this important sentence. 'I would also like to remind people there is a wealth of support on offer to anyone who is suffering this kind of abuse.’
