Two suspected bicycle thieves were arrested and a number of items seized following a quick response by police in Dover.
A Dover District Council CCTV operator spotted suspicious activity in the Castle Street area of the town in the early hours of Saturday 30 July 2022.
The operator alerted local patrols, who attended the scene and arrested a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of going equipped to steal. A pair of pliers, an angle grinder and bolt cutters were seized.
No bikes were reported stolen from the town centre, but a bike later found at an address in the town was also seized as part of an ongoing investigation.
Both of the boys have since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Advice to cyclists
Inspector Paul Barrell, of Dover Community Safety Unit, said: 'This is a good example of where partnership working has allowed our officers to quickly respond to and prevent possible offences in Dover.
'It also shows the importance to cyclists of parking their bikes in a well-lit area, covered by CCTV, and making sure their bikes are securely locked and marked.'
